What is in a name?

The name Mennotech is a combination of the word Mennonite and Technician. The early Mennonite people held to a radical belief in the teachings of Jesus. Nonviolence has become one of the distinguishing marks of many Mennonite people. Today there are a wide variety of people groups who trace their roots to the early Mennonite people. The impact of Mennonite people has likewise been varied with both positive and negative effects.
Some Mennonite people have historically been associated with restricting the use of technology such as automobiles and  telephones. The goal was to protect their communities from the negative effects of technologies. It could be argued that these communities were repressive. However, the core belief that technology needs to be evaluated and understood for its impact on people and communities, is a valuable paradigm that is much needed today. Technology should serve people and improve their lives and communities, rather than destroy them.

Stewardship

People have often developed technology that has a negative impact on our world resources. It is often difficult to know who to address these complex issues. One step Mennotech has taken is to contribute 1% of our revenue to carbon removal. While this is only a small step, we want to make sure we are at least thinking about how we can be better stewards of the resources we have been given.
